Boy meets girl, girl meets boy – isn’t that how the saying goes? Not in our case. Well maybe just a tiny bit of it. Boy saw a picture of girl and fell head over heels. He then sends girl a message. Girl replied and the rest as they says is history!
Hi, I’m Dan. I would like to know you better.
The Daffodil Hotel & Spa – the luxury hotel in Grasmere in the heart of the Lake District is where Dan was when he sent that mentioned text. He was on a break and minding his business on his phone until a photo of me popped up – he couldn’t wait to meet me and tell me that I was beautiful (his words, not mine). Since that first encounter, his world has never been the same again. Ha ha!
I Call It Love
According the management, the hotel was originally named ‘Browns Lake Hotel’ after its owner Edward Brown. However shortly after the hotel was opened they had a Royal visitor, The Prince of Wales who later became Edward VII. There was great excitement surrounding the visit and as a result Edward Brown decided to change the name to The Prince of Wales Hotel. The current building that is the Daffodil Hotel & Spa opened 2012.
The hotel offers the most romantic breaks for couples, indulgent luxury breaks for those wanting something a bit extra special, and short weekend breaks, ideal if you really want to do a bit of exploring. The hotel boasts of rooms that overlook the lake and beautiful grounds which a great for taking little walks in. If you fancy venturing out of the hotel, Grasmere has some unique shops where you could get souvenir, coffee shops and hidden gems which are literally a few minutes walk away. Dan’s favourite place the poet Wordsworth’s Dove Cottage is a few minutes along the main road too.
While at the Daffodil hotel & Spa don’t forget to book yourself on t the spa and massage or sauna for a well earned treatment course.
Even though the town is small, there are so many things you could do in Grasmere. I loved Grasmere when I visited last year in August, it is really a beautiful place. The surrounding mountains and spectacular scenery, made the anniversary of that earlier text even more magical.
Food, Glorious Food
I found the a la carte menu for breakfast at the hotel limited, but the continental was better if you are looking for the likes of English breakfast. The all-day menu is probably the best as it covers quite a good range of foods. Having said that, the said menu can be a bit expensive for the portions but I have to say that the cooking is first class and so worth it.
The Daffodil is for people who want a leisurely break in a contemporary-style hotel with scenic views but the high quality of this place is matched by the price tag. Basically, you pay for the high quality that you get. I haven’t visited other hotels in the lake District but I am certain that that what sets this hotel apart from all others in Grasmere is its location which is found on the shore of Grasmere lake, a position that no other hotel is able to claim. Lakeside views, beautiful manicured gardens, excellent customer service, and great food. What else could you ask for?
The Daffodil hotel & Spa is not only the nostalgic value that it gives me – it is a beautiful and breathtaking place!
