For as long as I can remember, shoes have always been a passion of mine. I fell in love with them as a young girl, enchanted by the elegance of heels and the way they could instantly transform an outfit. There’s something special about a beautiful pair of heels that draws me in. I could look at them for hours, appreciating their craftsmanship and the way they make you feel powerful and feminine at the same time.
Life has a funny way of surprising us
However, since my diagnosis with Chronic Myalgia in 2013, my relationship with shoes – particularly heels, has had to change. Wearing heels for long periods became difficult, and over time, I found myself relying more on flats and a variety of sneakers. At first, I missed the elegance of high heels, but what I didn’t expect was how much I’d grow to love my new shoe choices.
Sneakers, especially, have become a staple in my wardrobe. Whether it’s styling them with a casual outfit or even dressing them up for a more polished look, I’ve found a new way to express my style without sacrificing comfort. They have their charm, and I’ve learned to embrace the versatility they offer.
That’s not to say I’ve given up on heels entirely! There are still special moments where I’ll choose a pair of heels for a short event where I know I won’t be standing for long. The funny thing is, despite my day-to-day preference for foo-heels, I still adore heels. I’ve kept most of my collection, even though I haven’t worn many pairs in years.
Just last weekend, I dusted off a pair of heels I had only worn once – six years ago! To my surprise, they felt good, and I wasn’t uncomfortable wearing them, which has given me hope. Perhaps I’ll be able to wear heels a bit more often in the future. One step at a time, right?
In the meantime, I’m enjoying this journey of rediscovering how to balance style and comfort in my footwear. Who knew sneakers would end up being such a central part of my wardrobe? Life has a funny way of surprising us, but as long as I can still appreciate the beauty of a well-made pair of shoes, I’m happy.
